Get to know me a little bit...
My name is Karen, a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist working with adults through my private practice and children through a youth organisation in Cornwall. My path into counselling began because I believe deeply in the importance of being truly heard. Life can feel overwhelming at times, and I know how hard it can be to reach out for support. I am here to offer a kind and supportive space which I believe we all need at different times in our lives. My role isn't to give you answers, but to walk alongside you as you find your own way forward.
"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." - Carl Rogers -
What is Person-Centred Counselling?
Person-Centred Counselling is a humanistic approach to therapy that focuses on you as the expert of your own life. Rather than offering advice and direction, a person-centred counsellor provides a safe, accepting, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences freely.
Developed by Carl Rogers, this approach is based on the belief that everyone has the innate ability to grow, change and reach their full potential when given the right supportive conditions. The counsellor's role is to create those conditions through three core principles:
Empathy - Genuinely understanding your world, experiences and feelings from your perspective.
Unconditional positive regard - Accepting and valuing you without judgement.
Congruence - Being genuine and authentic in the counselling relationship.
Through this supportive environment, you can gain greater self-awareness, build self-acceptance, and find your own answers to life's challenges. Person-centred counselling helps you reconnect with your inner resources and move towards personal growth, self-discovery, understanding, healing and self-confidence.
